Thomas Schick studied History of Modern German Literature as well as Theater and Media Studies at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) Erlangen-Nürnberg. Following his graduation, he assumed teaching assignments at the university's Institute of Theater and Media Studies. From 2005 to 2012, Schick was as a research assistant in the field of film history at HFF Konrad Wolf. Between 2013 and 2015, he worked at the Research Service Center of Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. In 2015, he earned a PhD with his thesis on the affective perception of auteur films, in which he examined films of the Berlin School. Schick has been a visiting professor in the Media Studies program of Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf since October 2015.
